Krabi from A to Z

Airport tax Each passenger leaving Krabi will be charged airport tax of 500.-Baht for international flights. If you fly to any other destination in Thailand the airport tax is 50.-Baht and is usually included in your ticket price.

Bus and Taxi Local busses are called ” Songthaews”, which literally means 'two benches'. They are convenient and cheap way of traveling. One way from Krabi town to Ao Nang costs 20.- Baht per person at daytime. In the evening it costs 50.-Baht per person and way. The destinations are marked on the car. Before you enter the car agree the fare with the driver and pay at the destination. The Songthaews are driving until 10.30 pm. Agree the fare every time before you board the taxi.

Hospitals The Krabi Hospital is located in Krabi Town on Utarakit  Road. Phone: 0 75611 202, 0 7561 1210. In order to avoid misunderstandings about the bill, always ask about the fees before treatment.

Language THAI is the official language of Thailand. English is widely spoken though especially in tourist places and of course hotels. Don't be surprised to experience some difficulties in communication as Thai pronunciation of English is quite different from yours.

Laundry Your hotel provides cleaning service and laundry. There are lots of places outside your hotel however, that offer laundry service at 30 -40.-Baht per 1 kg (without ironing).

Massage You should definitely try out Thai massage during your stay in Thailand. At the beach the massage will cost you around 200.-Baht per hour, but this is not a medical massage as most of the masseurs don't have any training. Therefore we suggest you should visit one of the SPA centers to get a proper treatment. For the places recommended by Trans Island Travel you can contact your representative.

Medical service - Doctor In case of emergency the hotel reception will call for a doctor. You will have to pay the fee directly after the treatment and a refund depends on your insurance coverage.

Money changing You can change your money at your hotel reception, travel offices and exchange offices. Hotels and travel offices usually offer a lower rate than exchange offices but have longer business hours. In Ao Nang and Krabi you will find official exchange offices which are usually open from 8.00 a.m.  until 9.00 p.m. You need to show your passport to change your traveler’s check and to withdraw money with your credit card. The ATM's work similar to those in your home country.

Night life Tourist nightlife is concentrated in Ao Nang Beach Road while in Krabi Town you will find more of local flavor.

Pharmacy There are a couple of pharmacies in both Ao Nang and Krabi town. They are usually open from 8.00 am to 9 pm. And you can obtain all kind of medicine without prescription. Some basic medicine can also be bought in Seven Eleven markets.

Power The voltage is 220 volt, if some hotels use old style sockets, adapters are available from the housekeeping department.

Religion The religion of Thailand is Buddhism. Please show respect by taking off your shoes and dress well when you enter the temple. Please do never touch a monk, nun or religious images. In Krabi Province there is a local community of Muslim who go to Mosque on Friday to pray.

Reservation Please understand that an airline seat reservation can be made only in case of handicapped travelers, illness or pregnancy, and can be taken by your airline only. Your tour operator has no influence over the airline and is not responsible for any problems.

Restaurants You will find many different restaurants in both Ao Nang and Krabi Town featuring Thai, Japanese and International cuisine. Trans Islands Travel recommends Sala Thai Restaurant in Ao Nang (Seafood).

Shopping In Krabi town and Ao Nang there are many shops and places where you can buy the things Thailand is well known for. Copies of brand watches, jeans, T-shirts and computer programs as well as pure silk. Bargaining is a normal thing except for the supermarkets and department stores with fixed prices. Trans Island Travel recommend “Gi-Or” for food souvenir, locate in Krabi Town.

Sunbathing Please be especially careful in the first few days of your stay. The tropical sun is much stronger than that in your home country. Cloudy skies or umbrellas don't protect you from sunburns. Please use sun creams and sun blocks. Keep in mind that Thai people are not used to see topless women for sunbathing. Maybe they will show you their disrespect in a very bad way.

Telephone The international code is 001 followed by your country  code, then the area code without the first zero and the number.

Theft safety Thailand is generally safe. However you should be careful and take care of yourself and your belongings, use the safety box which is provided free of charge by your hotel. Don't hand over your credit card to strangers and never give your passport as a deposit. Carry with you only the amount of money you need

Time difference The time difference between Thailand and Europe is +5 or +6 hours.
