About Krabi

About Krabi

Krabi is on the Andaman Sea coast of southwest Thailand, about 1,000 km from Bangkok and 180 km from Phuket. Total area is 4,709 square kilometers with estimated population at about 370,000. After dating stone tools, ancient colored pictures, beads, pottery and skeleton remains found in the province's many cliffs and caves, it is thought that Krabi has been home to Homo sapiens since the period 25,000 - 35,000 B.C. In recorded times it was called the " Ban Thai Samor" and was one of twelve towns that used, before people were widely literate, the monkey for their standard.

In 1872, King Chulalongkorn graciously elevated these to town status, called Krabi, a word that preserves in its meaning the monkey symbolism of the old standard.

Weather in Krabi is typically that of the tropical monsoon, providing the province with just two seasons, the hot season from November to April and the rainy season from May to October. Krabi is the entry point to some of Thailand's finest beaches, most beautiful tropical islands, amazing national parks, beautiful temples and a host of adventure and sporting activities including diving, rock climbing, trekking, Kayaking and much more. The incredible natural scenery of Krabi province is breathtaking.
